When a herd of buffalo are attacked by predators, the adults form a protective circle with horns facing outward around the young calves. When the native peoples saw this, they called buffalos the "keepers of the circle." They knew that everything has a place on the medicine wheel of the universe; and within this one great circle there are many wheels that help us to understand life.
Two eagles, the feminine eagle of the west and the masculine eagle of the east, celebrate the buffalo's place on the wheel. The "Buffalo Shield" was made for a medicine brother who is a Sikh and on the reverse side is Aid Shakti, the mystical symbol of infinity.
