Sulis Necklace

Sulis Necklace

The moon, with its cycles of new, increase, full and decrease gave birth to the movement of time, with its cycles of birth, growth, decline and destruction. Because of the connection between womens' "moon" cycles (the nourishment of the womb) and lunar phases, the moon became the prime symbol of the Mother Goddess.

Many ancient cultures saw the Moon Goddess as the Creatress who brooded over the sea until she brought forth Heaven and Earth. The root word for both mind and moon is the Sanskrit "masas" an attribute of the primordial Mother, Ma. The Goddess Europa's name means full moon and the Roman name for the Goddess is Luna. To the Greeks she is Selene the bringer of reason and wisdom.

The moon still indicales the correct time to plant our seeds as my mother taught me.

For abundant crops, we plant root crops in the declining moon, and crops above the ground on her increase.
