Wing Song II Necklace

Wing Song II Necklace

At sunset, I was playing the harp out on my studio's deck which overlooks the Columbia River. It was a warm summer evening and the breeze was starting to stir as the sun was setting. This was one of the times that I found myself living alone in the Northwest wilderness, and I was celebrating this time of solitude with Nature, also I was feeling a bit lonely.

The wind started to vibrate the strings of my harp and, as I put my ear to the soundbox to hear the delicate sounds, incredible music flowed from the wind thru my harp. The presence of the wind was very tactile and it felt as though she was caressing me in an embrace as she flowed around me and played my harp. It was a nurturing touch that resonated with a knowing of what I was feeling.

I started to lightly pluck the strings playing a duet with the wind. I then realised that if I moved my hand upwind from the harp it would change the music that the harp was playing. My hands were playing the wind as we both played the harp. I jumped up and started dancing with the wind and the rhythms and tones of the melody reverberated with my body's movement.

What started out to be a melancholy evening with my harp turned into a joyous party. While I was still feeling the exhilaration of this relationship, I made the drawing celebrating this music in the piece "The Wind Sang To Me."
